Winners of the Most Extraordinary Celebration Competition announced

As part of its fiftieth anniversary celebrations this year, the Victorian Society ran a competition for the most elaborate and imaginative celebrations organised to mark the charity's golden anniversary of campaigning to save the nation's best Victorian and Edwardian architecture from the wrecking ball. Members rose to the challenge in style and, after careful deliberation, five winners have been announced.

Harry Pope proprietor of The Sheldon, Eastbourne, won the Best Tea Award for the Victorian tea party run at the guesthouse on Monday 25 February
The Leicester Group of the Victorian Society won the Most Attention-Grabbing Award for their protest march and fast outside the Thomas Cook Hotel in Leicester, which made waves in the local papers, on the radio, and on the local BBC news
The Manchester Group of the Victorian Society won the Best Venue Award for their dinner for 300 at EW Pugin's magnificent Gorton Monastery

The South Wales Group of the Victorian were awarded the Most Innovative Use of Technology prize for their virtual toast to the Victorian Society
The Isle of Man Victorian Society scooped the Most Lavish Spread Award for their lavish meal in the Booking Hall of Douglas Railway Station
