0832.3 Alfred Waterhouse: Revival or Modernity?
Tuesday 21 October 6.30pm
The 1870s saw Waterhouse at the height of his success. The lecture will unravel the central paradox of his career: the way he allied an exceptional fluency in historical styles with unabashed modernity in materials and planning. Chairman of the Victorian Society, our speaker, Colin Cunningham is the author, with Prudence Waterhouse, of Alfred Waterhouse, 1830-1905: Biography of a Practice (1992).
Lectures usually last about an hour and take place at the Art Workers’ Guild, 6 Queen Square, London WC1 at 6.30pm. Doors open at 6pm. Wine will be available before the lectures (not included in ticket prices). The venue is conveniently placed for Holborn and Russell Square Tube stations and numerous bus services. Tickets £10 on the door, or much cheaper if you book.
